why green matters

Like all dvd replication plant operators, EcoDiscs produces harmful waste during the manufacturing process. CD & DVD replicators produce what is commonly known as VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and those VOCs are caused by petroleum-based inks, varnishes, laminates and glues traditionally used. Air pollution from those nasty compounds greatly increase the risk of asthma attacks according to the EPA and environmental advocacy groups.

But reducing VOCs at the plant is only half of what producing “green discs” is all about. While most manufacturers generally comply with existing regulations we all need to do what we can to conserve energy and trees wherever possible. regulations are often out of date and so simply complying with often means we fall short.

Producing “Green Discs” helps conserve Energy and Trees

Most people would be surprised that the paper and printing industry (of which disc replication is a part) ranks fourth amongst US manufacturers in the amount of energy they consume. Producing print pieces the traditional way demands lots of fossil fuels, making printing presses and all the associated equipment a major drain on our natural resources.

What we strive for is to minimize our carbon footprint when producing the packaging that the plastic disc goes in. While we cannot make discs from anything other than optical grade polycarbonate, we can greatly reduce our use of plastics in the packaging.

Being a sustainable printer means carefully planning jobs to minimize electricity use. It also means ensuring that paper and card stock is only sourced from companies certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) because it tells us that the paper comes from well-managed forests that adhere to strict environmental standards. It means making sure that only sustainable products are sourced for the printing process. It means recycling and reusing paper and other supplies whenever possible.

Printing Green is Easier than You Think

It’s true that printed matter is still the most effective way to communicate with consumers, so even in the electronic age, companies and organizations will still be printing brochures, packaging, and other documents.

we can all play an important role in protecting and conserving the environment by printing green. When you print green, you’ll know that you’re doing your part to protect and conserve the environment. You’ll be reducing waste and ensuring that you’re not contributing toxins to the environment or filling landfills. You’ll be conserving energy and making certain that the paper and products used by your printer come from sustainable sources and operations.
